Cannes Film Festival: Upset and Sunset

This was a day where reality in Cannes seemed to try to match the movies - first more than one million dollars of Chopard jewelry get stolen in a heist, then (fake) shots are fired during a live television broadcast and two jury members need to rush for cover. Despite all the upset, the day ended with a beautiful sunset (how's that for a transition?) - some pix below

First day impressions

Just got home from the first day - not a great start, rain started right on time for opening red carpet, and then didn't stop until now. Seems tomorrow will be the same. A pity, opening with "The Great Gatsby" sounded like a great idea - but even the opening red carpet ceremony wasn't quite what was expected - nothing comparable to the Can Can Dancers they brought in for "Moulin Rouge" in 2001. Anyway, a few pix from the first evening:

Only four commpetition films for now, but presumably this list will be complete once the festival starts on May 15.
