President Pedro: Almodovar to rule 2017 Cannes Film Festival Jury

Although he never won the highest award here (the Golden Palm), Spanish Director Pedro Almodovar nevertheless accepted to become Jury President of the 70th Cannes Film Festival. Almodovar is a Cannes regular: Four of his films won awards in at the festival:

  1. All About my Mother (Todo Sobre mi Madre, Best Director)
  2. Volver (Best Screenplay, Best Collective Female Performance)
  3. Broken Embraces (Los Abrazos Rotos)
  4. The Skin I Live In, and Julieta

Some of the biggest names in Spanish and international cinema have started their career with Almodovar, including Penélope Cruz, Antonio Banderas and Javier Bardem.

After announcing the Jury president, the festival directorate should present the offical poster soonish, followed in early May by the much-expected announdement of the films selected for the competition and other festival "side programs".
