Cannes Film Festival Chaos: Bomb Alert Rumors; Striking Workers Cut Electricity
According to some reports on twitter, there's currently a bomb alert for the Festival Palace, although this rumor is contested by other tweets.
What is sure is that film screenings and other activities have come to a halt at the Cannes Film Festival as striking workers cut the electricity to the Film Festival Palace, luxury hotels and other areas in Cannes.

Cannes Film Festival Scandal Around Antichrist
Seems that this year's Cannes Film Festival entry by past "Golden Palm" winner Lars van Trier has created the first real scandal this year. The press screening was accompanied by laughther, hisses and booing at the end - there are even reports that at least one reporter fainted during paticularily graphic scenes. Not many reviews seem to be out yet, but what is out is pretty devastating - "appaling" is a mild adjective, and there are predictions that this movie could end van Trier's career - pretty unlikely given that the careers of past generators of Cannes Film Festival scandals seem to be doing just fine.
Update: Variety review now available!

Hot Rumor: Robert Pattinson ("Twilight"/Edward Cullen) coming to CannesFilm Festival
Maybe triggered by the vampire-friendly rainy weather and overcast sky tonite in Cannes, the rumor is that Robert Pattinson - playing male lead Edward Cullen in "Twilight" and universal heart-throb - will be coming to Cannes on Tuesday, May 19. He will participate in a French TV show and also walk up the red carpet - if this really happens, there will be a screaming audience at the bottom of the festival steps next week!
We will try hard to confirm this!
Update: This is now confirmed!

Cannes Film Festival Opening Day
Was late for the "red carpet" ritual of the opening ceremony, so didn't bother to go at all - otherwise, the usual slow opening night atmosphere - Pixar's opening movie "Up" is getting good reviews - took a few pictures of the red carpet and the opening party for "Up" and uploaded them directly via twitter - that's live reporting, only using a mobile phone - geek heaven!
Later at night, ran into an old friend who hasn't been here for four years, and through her met somebody I worked with back in the 90s when this whole Web in Cannes thing was still brand new, who told me he put up Quentin Tarantino for a week in Paris in 1992 when nobody knew him but that he still wasn't sure whether he could get an interview this time and get around the publicists. The evening ended with a beer while people-watching on the Croisette and listening to drunken conversation at the next table that involved a girl called Harmony as well as a mix of Dickens and Talking Heads citations - welcome to Cannes, baby!
